Dr. Samuel Lott

Sam Lott has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and has worked in the field of transportation planning and engineering for the last 30 years.  His project work spans many aspects of aviation, urban transit, and multimodal ground transportation.  He has served as the U.S. representative to an IEC working group that has completed a new international safety standard for fully automated metro systems, and he previously served for 10 years as the vice chair of the ASCE Automated People Mover Standards Committee.

Throughout his career, Sam has been involved in the study of transportation systems and the surrounding pedestrian environments.  In particular, the planning and design of pedestrian facilities and related conveyance systems within major activity centers has been one of the areas of specialty for which he is well known.  He has been instrumental in the development of the Advanced Land-Transportation Performance Simulation (ALPS) software over the past 25 years, of which the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT)/Group Rapid Transit (GRT) modeling component of this multimodal analysis tool continues to be integral to his work.
