Hans F. Larsen

Director, City of San Jose, Transportation Department

 

Hans Larsen is the Acting Director for San José’s Department of Transportation. The Department is responsible for a wide range of services ranging from street, sewer and streetlight maintenance to the design of bicycle and pedestrian projects, managing parking and traffic, to planning regional roadway and transit projects. Prior to stepping into the Acting Director position in October 2009, Hans served as Deputy Director for the Department’s Policy, Planning, Regional and Local Project Delivery division. He has worked for the City in its transportation and public works departments for 25 years. He is a graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in civil engineering

Over past decade Hans has been active in the national transportation profession and has focused on the issues of “smart growth” and the relationships between land use, transportation and community livability. Hw has been a speaker at national conferences in Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh and has attended many other conferences around the country. Hans enjoys traveling with his family to observe first-hand the best practices of transportation including travels throughout Europe, as well as to South America and Japan.
